A valuation in itself is not a survey, although whilst conducting a survey, a valuation is often included as part of the service. To establish the value of a vessel, condition must be taken into account and hence to determine a more realistic valuation, a survey should be conducted rather than just accepting the average 'market value'.

The survey scope will be similar to that followed for either
pre-purchase survey or one conducted for the purpose of obtaining insurance.
